Building Bridges Project

Asylum Seekers and Refugees Programme

This programme began in the autumn of 2015 under the auspices of the Association of Bakewell Christians. The programme has some 60 people on its books - many from Bakewell Methodist Church. The programme has three main working groups - Teaching English, Hospitality and Advocacy - though individuals are engaged in many activities on their own, such as raising funds and petitioning government. The programme is linked with Sheffield City of Sanctuary, originally a Christian initiative to care for asylum seekers and refugees in the Sheffield area. We send volunteers to back up City of Sanctuary’s work, as well as raise funds to support it. In all these things members of Bakewell Methodist Church are actively involved alongside those from other Bakewell Churches. The Co-ordinator of the Programme is David Clark, a Methodist deacon. He can be contacted at david@clark58.eclipse.co.uk or 01629 810172.
